Tom Hanks is facing backlash over a MAGA-themed skit on *Saturday Night Live’s* 50th anniversary, with critics accusing him of portraying Trump supporters as racist.
Hanks revived his 2016 role as Doug, a clueless Trump supporter in a MAGA hat, during a *Black Jeopardy!* sketch. The Daily Mail noted this sparked outrage, as Doug “excels at Black Jeopardy,” but the performance upset Trump supporters. A viewer claimed, “No one in the audience laughs as Tom Hanks appears on SNL as a racist Donald Trump supporter.”
Link Lauren, ex-aide to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., called the skit “disgusting,” accusing SNL of pushing a divisive narrative. He added, “This show wonders why their ratings are in the gutter.”
Right-wing influencer Dominick McGee criticized Hanks for “mocking all Republicans,” seeing the skit as an unfair stereotype.
The controversy reignited claims about SNL’s falling viewership. Trump fans pointed to the “awkward silence” during Hanks’ performance as proof the show’s humor is outdated. The Daily Mail reported further political jabs during the episode, including jokes about Trump renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.”
