Donald Trump orders reopening of notorious Alcatraz prison and reveals who will be sent there

Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he wants to **rebuild and reopen Alcatraz prison**, claiming it’s time to get tough on violent repeat offenders. “*For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders,*” he wrote.

Trump said he would send **“the most dangerous criminals”** to the rebuilt facility, insisting that in the past, America didn’t hesitate to lock up such offenders. “*No longer will we tolerate these Serial Offenders who spread filth, bloodshed, and mayhem on our streets,*” he added.

He directed the **Bureau of Prisons, DOJ, FBI, and Homeland Security** to begin plans for reopening Alcatraz. “*The reopening of ALCATRAZ will serve as a symbol of Law, Order, and JUSTICE,*” he said, calling it part of his vision to “*MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!*”

Originally a naval fort, **Alcatraz became a federal prison in the 1930s** but closed in 1963 due to high operating costs — nearly three times that of other prisons.

Reopening the prison would be a **costly and complex process**, and it remains unclear how quickly or seriously Trump plans to move forward with it.
