Bronx Girl, 4, Survives Alone After Family Tragedy

A four-year-old girl named Promise was found alive after spending several days alone in her Bronx apartment, trapped with the bodies of her mother and older brother. On May 2, Promise’s older sister visited the apartment after not hearing from the family and made the heartbreaking discovery.

Promise was found lying on the bed “eating chocolate,” surrounded by tragedy. Her mother, Lisa Cotton (38), and eight-year-old brother, Nazir, were both dead.

Lisa’s landlord had grown concerned and contacted her father, Hubert, who was unaware of the situation. Neighbors said they hadn’t seen Lisa in over two weeks. Despite concerns, police had not entered earlier, saying there were “no signs of break-in or odor.”
