Natural Pest Control: Eliminate Bed Bugs and Household Pests with Diatomaceous Earth & Cloves

Why Use Diatomaceous Earth (DE)?

Diatomaceous earth is a fine, chemical-free powder made from fossilized organisms. It works by drying out insects. As the article says, “It eliminates insects by absorbing the protective oils and fats from their exoskeletons, leading to dehydration and death.” DE is non-toxic and safe for use around pets and children when handled correctly—always choose food-grade DE and avoid breathing it in.

How to Apply DE Effectively

Clean First: Vacuum beds, carpets, and furniture thoroughly. Dispose of vacuum contents right away.

Apply DE: “Lightly sprinkle DE around bed frames, under furniture, and in cracks where bed bugs hide.” Focus on common hiding spots like baseboards and outlet covers.

Let It Sit: Leave DE untouched for 5–7 days so it can work.

Clean & Repeat: Vacuum up the DE and dead bugs, and reapply every 7–10 days until the bugs are gone.
