A protestor who waved a Sudanese-Palestinian flag during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show has been banned for life from all NFL events.
During Lamar’s performance, which featured 11 songs and cameos from Serena Williams and Samuel L. Jackson, Zul-Qarnain Nantambu, posing as a dancer, climbed onto a prop car and unfurled a flag with “Gaza” and “Sudan” written on it. Security quickly removed him from the 83,000-capacity stadium.
The NFL confirmed the ban, stating, “We commend security for quickly detaining the individual… No one involved with the production was aware of the individual’s intent.” Roc Nation also denied any prior knowledge, calling the act “neither planned nor part of the production.”
Nantambu, however, defended his actions, saying, “I know it would invigorate their faith, seeing somebody supporting them… on such a grand stage.” He added, “Maybe we don’t have the military prowess to stop the war, but we can at least help those afflicted.”
