Why It’s Better Not to Shower Right Before Bed

Taking a hot bath or shower right before sleeping might seem relaxing, but it can have surprising downsides. Here’s why showering before bed might not be as good as we thought:

1. **It May Cause Weight Gain:**
“Going to the shower after eating might affect your digestive system and cause weight gain.” Experts suggest waiting at least 30 minutes after dinner before washing up.

2. **It’s Bad for Your Hair:**
Sleeping with damp hair lets your pillow “create a perfect warm and humid environment for harmful bacteria.” This can lead to “itchiness, irritation, and dandruff.”

3. **Falling Asleep Gets Harder:**
A hot shower raises your body temperature, which “confuse[s] your body” as it prepares for rest. It’s better to bathe “an hour or 2 before sleeping.”

4. **It Can Make Your Heart Race:**
Hot water “raises your blood pressure” and may “cause stress to your heart,” leaving you tossing and turning at night.

While a shower feels comforting, timing matters for your health and sleep quality.
