Burn Survivor Overcomes Adversity to Open a Bakery
Tragedy often dominates the news, but inspiring stories like that of Ngo Quy Hai remind us of resilience.
A Life-Changing Accident
Hai suffered severe burns as a toddler after falling into a wood stove. “I didn’t understand how dangerous they could be back then,” he reflected. Despite years of surgeries, he faced lifelong scars and emotional struggles.
Facing Isolation and Bullying
“I didn’t have many friends and felt alone growing up,” Hai shared. For two years, he never left home. A friendship with another disabled person helped him find hope.
A Bakery for Everyone
After being humiliated at a bakery, Hai vowed to create an inclusive space. “They kicked us out… I wanted a place where everyone is welcome.” With family support, he trained in hospitality and opened his own bakery.
Giving Back
Hai often invites street children for free cake, believing, “One way to change society is to give something back.”
A Message of Strength
“I am more than how I look,” he said. “Don’t use harsh words with me. I’ve survived.”
