Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, were found dead in separate rooms at their Santa Fe home. Authorities believe they died from carbon monoxide poisoning, along with one of their dogs.
A search warrant revealed Hackman was found in a mudroom, while Arakawa was in a bathroom with scattered pills nearby. The couple showed no visible wounds and had been deceased “for some time,” with reports indicating partial mummification.
Hackman’s daughter Elizabeth confirmed suspicions of carbon monoxide poisoning. The investigation is ongoing.
Tributes poured in for the Oscar-winning actor. George Takei described him as someone who could “play anyone” with a “towering presence,” while Francis Ford Coppola called him “inspiring and magnificent.”
Antonio Banderas shared condolences, calling it “a very sad day for cinema’s family.”
