Congressman proposes new $250 bill featuring Donald Trump’s face

South Carolina Representative Joe Wilson has announced plans to introduce legislation directing the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a $250 bill featuring former President Donald J. Trump. Wilson argues that “Bidenflation has destroyed the economy forcing American families to carry more cash,” and describes Trump as the “most valuable President.”

However, current U.S. law prohibits depicting living individuals on currency—a regulation established in 1866 to prevent monarchical representations. Additionally, denominations above $100 have been out of circulation since 1969 due to low usage.

This proposal is part of broader efforts by some Republicans to honor Trump, including initiatives to establish a public holiday on his birthday and add his likeness to Mount Rushmore.

The legislation would require amending existing laws to allow living former presidents to appear on currency.

The proposal has sparked debate and controversy, with critics highlighting legal and practical challenges.
