Jennifer Piggott, a former Trump supporter from West Virginia, lost her job at the Treasury Department’s Bureau of Fiscal Service due to Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk. DOGE aims to cut federal jobs to reduce government spending. “I cried. It’s scary. It’s a really scary thing, and I was embarrassed,” Piggott told CNN.
Once a proud “MAGA junkie” who flew a Trump-Vance flag, she has since removed it. Piggott was fired for “poor performance” despite receiving “the highest rating you can get” less than three weeks earlier. “I expected more from President Donald Trump,” she admitted.
Some West Virginia voters now fear speaking out, as Piggott has received death threats. Another ex-Treasury worker, who quit to avoid losing health insurance, supported budget cuts but disagreed with “the way that it’s been done.”
At least 49,110 federal employees have been let go under Trump’s policy, with further reductions expected. “Nobody understood the devastation this administration would bring to our lives,” Piggott said, adding, “I don’t understand this at all.”
