A tragic helicopter crash in New York’s Hudson River has claimed six lives. The pilot, identified as Navy SEAL veteran Sean Johnson, was flying for New York Helicopters when the aircraft went down at 3:17pm on April 10. All six passengers, including a Spanish family of five, were confirmed dead.The victims were Siemens executive Agustín Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children, aged 11, 5, and 4. Johnson, who had previously worked as a celebrity bodyguard, had recently started his aviation career in New York.
Owner of the chopper, Michael Roth, said, “He [the pilot] called in that he was landing and that he needed fuel… but 20 minutes later, he didn’t arrive.”
Johnson’s wife, Kathryn, shared her grief: “I’m just at loss for words. I don’t even know what happened.” His former co-pilot, Earl Watters, added, “The world has lost an all-around great person… Always and forever a BOOMER crew member.”Eyewitness Max told ABC News, “It sounded like a sonic boom… the rotor flying off… it just went straight into the water. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life.”he crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
