Helicopter Pilot’s Final Radio Call to Base Before Tragic Crash Revealed – Details

What began as a joyful sightseeing flight turned tragic when a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River, killing all six onboard. Among the victims were Siemens executive Agustin Escobar, his wife Merce, and their three children.

“Just minutes after takeoff from Manhattan,” the Bell 206 pilot requested a fuel stop—but the aircraft soon vanished from radar. At 3:17 p.m., it was found upside down in the water. No survivors were found.

Witnesses heard “loud snapping noises” as the helicopter went into a tailspin. Footage captured its final seconds—spiraling, breaking apart, then crashing nose-first. Experts believe rotor failure or blade separation was likely. “There’s no surviving that,” one analyst remarked.

Although the weather was gusty, visibility was clear. The NTSB is investigating, and drone restrictions are now in place over the crash site.

Escobar, known for his work in sustainable transport, leaves behind a global legacy. The tragedy has shaken communities in both the U.S. and Spain.

This heartbreaking accident is a chilling reminder of how quickly joy can turn to devastation—a “thin line between wonder and heartbreak.”
