Parents of 10-year-old girl who took her own life reveal disturbing changes they noticed before her death

Autumn Bushman was a brave, compassionate 10-year-old who “stood up for others.” After months of bullying at her Roanoke, Virginia school, Autumn died by suicide on March 21, leaving her family and community heartbroken.

Her parents, Summer and Mark, said Autumn was targeted for defending classmates. As the bullying continued, “her bright spirit began to fade.” She became withdrawn, her behavior changed, and she eventually asked to stay home due to stress.

Despite raising concerns with the school, her parents believe “not enough was done” to protect her. They now urge all families to have early conversations about bullying, emotional pain, and mental health.

Autumn’s story has sparked grief and a call for change. Her parents hope her legacy brings “awareness, compassion, and change.”
