3 Amish Children K!lled in Buggy ᴄʀᴀsʜ on Their Way to School

What began as a quiet morning turned tragic when three Amish siblings—ages 9, 10, and 13—were killed in a buggy accident near Bremen, Indiana. According to *The Kansas City Star*, they were on their way to school when a Mercedes SUV, driven by a 17-year-old, struck their buggy from behind. “All three children were thrown from the vehicle and tragically died at the scene.” The teen driver was not injured.

As of now, it’s unclear whether the driver will face charges. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.

This crash adds to a troubling trend. Indiana, home to over 63,000 Amish residents, has seen a rise in buggy-related accidents. A Purdue University study found that these incidents “often result in a higher rate of fatalities compared to regular car collisions.”
Attorney Dan Armstrong explained why: “There’s not going to be airbags. There’s not even going to be structural components to protect the occupants.”

He added, “It’s tricky. We want safer roads, but we also have to respect the beliefs and way of life of the Amish community.”
As the community mourns, the tragedy highlights the growing need to balance road safety with cultural respect.
