“Our body and mind have the power to send signs whenever something is wrong.” Recognizing and not ignoring these subtle signs can help detect cancer early and improve outcomes. Here are five early warning signs to watch for:
**1. Sudden Weight Loss**
“Losing weight all of a sudden, without making any changes in our diet or lifestyle may indicate the presence of cancer.” This could be linked to stomach, pancreas, liver, lung, esophageal, or blood cancers.
**2. Constant Fatigue**
Fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest may point to leukemia, lymphoma, or cancers of the colon, stomach, or liver. “Fatigue that may indicate some more serious conditions… is persistent.”
**3. Skin Changes**
Be alert to moles with irregular borders, changing color or size, sores that don’t heal, yellowing skin or eyes, or unusual itching. “Any changes on the skin should be taken seriously.”
**4. Persistent Pain**
Pain that lingers or worsens—especially in the bones, head, chest, pelvis, or abdomen—could be a symptom of cancer.
**5. Unusual Lumps**
“Lumps that get bigger, become red and painful, last more than two weeks, are hard and don’t move… consult with your GP.”
Whenever something feels off, it’s best to see a doctor.
