Former President Donald Trump said Melania Trump was deeply shaken after watching the assassination attempt on him live. “She can’t even talk about it,” Trump told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham. “That means she likes me. She cares about me.” He added, “When I went down… my hand was full of blood,” and she feared the worst.
The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by a Secret Service sniper. One rally attendee died, and two others were injured but later released from the hospital.
Lawmakers criticized the Secret Service for failing to secure the rooftop Crooks accessed and for ignoring warnings before Trump’s appearance. “They should have talked to the local police, but they didn’t,” Trump said. “They were seeing this guy around. He was a very disturbed person.”
Despite safety concerns, Trump insists on continuing outdoor rallies. “Yeah, I’m going to hold rallies outside,” he said. “I think it’s important symbolically.”
The next outdoor rally is planned for Butler, as Trump continues his campaign undeterred.
