Old Tweets Resurface
Soon after Trump’s congratulations, social media users resurfaced past tweets from Pope Leo XIV, where he criticized Trump-era policies.

One tweet he reshared read:

“Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed? How can you stay quiet?”
— in response to Trump and Bukele’s handling of deportations.

He also criticized family separation at the border:

“There is nothing remotely Christian, American, or morally defensible about a policy that takes children away from their parents and warehouses them in cages.”

Taking Aim at JD Vance
Pope Leo XIV also reshared a piece targeting Trump’s vice president pick, JD Vance. The op-ed stated:

“JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.”
This was in response to Vance claiming on Fox News that Christians should prioritize loving their family first, then citizens, and only afterward the rest of the world.
