Three volcanoes in the U.S.—Great Sitkin and Mount Spurr in Alaska, and Hawaii’s Kilauea—are showing increased volcanic activity.
Great Sitkin has been elevated to “Watch” status due to small quakes and lava emissions. Mount Spurr’s weekly earthquakes have surged, suggesting a “50-50 chance of eruption.” Meanwhile, Kilauea erupted in February 2025, launching lava over 300 feet high.
Experts caution that “rising magma levels…increase eruption risks,” which could threaten nearby areas with lava, ash, and toxic gases. Although no evacuations are currently in place, officials urge the public to stay alert.
