President Donald Trump, known for his provocative decisions, is again making waves—this time by renaming regions on Google Maps. After rebranding the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” for U.S. users, he now plans to rename the Persian Gulf to the “Arabian Gulf” during his visit to Saudi Arabia.
International Backlash
This move has angered Iran, especially as it coincides with sensitive nuclear negotiations. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the name change “absurd” and said, “The name Persian Gulf… is deeply rooted in human history.” He emphasized it doesn’t imply national ownership, but shared heritage.
