Why Sleeping Position Matters
Most people focus on diet and exercise for health, but few realize how much sleeping posture affects well-being. “We spend about a third of our lives sleeping,” and poor posture during this time can lead to chronic pain, nerve issues, and poor circulation. You might sleep eight hours and still wake up tired or sore due to your position.
Positions to Avoid
Sleeping on your stomach is especially harmful: “Your neck is turned to the side to breathe,” causing tension, misalignment, and lower back pain. If you wake up with headaches or neck pain, this could be why.
Also risky is sleeping with arms above your head. It can compress nerves, causing tingling or numbness. Similarly, a tightly curled fetal position can reduce lung capacity and strain the spine. Experts suggest a looser side position instead.
