A peaceful spring day in 2009 at Berlin Zoo turned chaotic when 32-year-old Mandy K. from Herzberg jumped into the polar bear enclosure during feeding time.
Shocked visitors watched as she swam toward the bears—one attacked as she tried to escape.
Zookeepers acted fast, throwing life rings and meat to distract the animals. Mandy was eventually pulled to safety, though she suffered serious injuries. “The woman was lucky to survive,” said one zoo official.
