Smaller tech firms are facing steep costs. Wyze Cam shared a receipt showing it paid “$255,000 in tariffs and $579.23 in other fees” to import just $167,000 worth of cameras. GlytchTech was charged over $2,800 in tariffs for under $2,000 in goods.
Adafruit Industries reported similar struggles. They explained, “Tariff taxes are paid before we sell any of the products… which has a big impact on cash flow.” They also noted that intellectual property restrictions prevent them from sourcing alternatives or producing the products themselves.
They hope to reclassify some items to dodge a 125% tariff, but say refunds could take months—if approved.
Meanwhile, customers are already seeing dramatic price hikes. One person reported a tech item that cost $300 in December is now over $1,500.
As the tariffs take hold, both businesses and consumers are left scrambling.
