The American Institute for Cancer Research says, “60 to 70 percent of cancers are all preventable through… simple changes in diet and lifestyle.”
One major step is avoiding common foods linked to cancer.
1. Canned and Processed Foods
BPA, found in many canned food linings and plastics, is “linked to cancer, infertility, diabetes, and obesity.” Also, processed meats like bacon, hot dogs, and sausages contain nitrates that form harmful chemicals during cooking—such as nitrosamines—that increase cancer risk.
2. Grilled and Smoked Meats
Grilling creates polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) when fat drips onto flames, causing carcinogenic smoke to coat your food. Smoked and cured meats are also risky due to chemical preservatives that form toxic by-products.
3. Farmed Fish
Farm-raised fish are often treated with antibiotics and pesticides due to disease and parasites. They also “contain higher levels of chemical pollutants… including PCBs,” which are known carcinogens.
