Sasha packed for a beach vacation and sent his six-months-pregnant wife, Lika, to his mother’s village — to work in the garden.
“Lika, come on, you know I need a break too,” he said.
“I’m six months pregnant, and you’re sending me to your mom’s place… to work in the garden?!” she replied.
In the village, Lika endured heat, pain, and harsh gossip from her mother-in-law, who mocked, “She’s lazy! Women used to give birth in the fields!” Lika said nothing, just whispered to her unborn baby, “Hang in there… just a little longer…”
When Sasha returned, cheerful and sun-kissed, he barely noticed her tired face.
“The beaches were incredible! Shrimp, cocktails… Next time, we’ll go together—”
“Sasha. I’m leaving,” she interrupted.
He laughed.
“You won’t make it without me.”
She smiled. “Well, Sasha… I think I’ll find out.”
