Understanding Leg Shapes and What They Mean
1. Normal (Straight) Legs
When the hips, knees, and ankles align, it’s considered healthy leg posture. “There are no visible gaps between the thighs, knees, or ankles,” which means bones and joints are well-aligned. This shape puts less strain on joints and usually causes no discomfort.
2. Bowlegs (Genu Varum)
This shape curves outward, with “knees stay[ing] apart even when the ankles are together.” It can result from childhood bone issues, rickets, or arthritis. Over time, it “can cause knee strain, imbalance, and eventual joint wear and tear.” Treatment includes physiotherapy or orthotics.
