Lucie Morris-Marr was stunned to learn that in 2015, the World Health Organization classified processed meat as a Group 1 carcinogen—the same category as tobacco. “Where were the warning labels?” she asked. “Where were the health campaigns?”
Her shock deepened when, after a major liver surgery, she found a ham sandwich on her hospital tray. “I told [the catering manager], ‘That’s why I’m here.’”
Determined to raise awareness, she wrote Processed, a book that mixes personal experience with investigation. “I’m not here to start a food scare,” she said. “I just want people to be informed.” Today, she opts for healthier swaps like halloumi and mushrooms.
Miraculously, Lucie is now cancer-free. “To be sitting here now and saying I am cancer-free is a miracle.” Her journey is a powerful reminder that food choices matter—and awareness can save lives.
