French President Emmanuel Macron has responded to a viral video showing his wife Brigitte appearing to slap or push him during their arrival in Hanoi, Vietnam, on May 25.
The clip shows Macron offering his hand to Brigitte as they exit the plane, but she seems to push him and ignore the gesture. A lip reader told Express that she muttered, “Dégage, espèce de loser” (“Stay away, you loser”).
Macron clarified, “My wife and I were squabbling, we were rather joking, and I was taken by surprise.” He added, “It has become a kind of planetary catastrophe… people are even coming up with theories.”
The couple has faced scrutiny before, but this moment sparked a wave of speculation online.
