Months after 18-year-old University of Colorado Boulder student Megan Trussell was found dead, officials ruled her death a suicide—but her family strongly disagrees.
On May 28, 2025, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said Megan died from “toxic effects of amphetamine,” with hypothermia contributing. Coroner Jeff Martin explained the conclusion was based on toxicology and the presence of “undigested prescription medication.” Sheriff Curtis Johnson added, “This outcome is heartbreaking… we hope the findings bring some closure.”
Megan went missing on February 9. She left her dorm at 9:36 p.m., and was later seen walking alone on security footage. Her phone’s final signal came from Boulder Canyon, where her body was found on February 15. A week later, a passerby found her purse nearby containing an empty prescription bottle.
