Former President Donald Trump was asked if he’d pardon Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently on trial in New York for sex trafficking, racketeering, and related charges.
Combs has pleaded not guilty to five criminal counts.
The trial has featured high-profile testimony, including from ex-girlfriend Cassie, who alleges years of abuse, and rapper Kid Cudi, who linked Diddy to a 2012 car bombing. A male escort known as “The Punisher” also testified about alleged sexual encounters with Combs.
Trump acknowledged his past friendship with Diddy: “He used to really like me, but I think that ended when I ran \[for president].” However, he emphasized that personal ties wouldn’t affect a pardon decision: “If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t, it wouldn’t matter to me.”
“I haven’t seen him. I haven’t spoken to him in years,” Trump added, noting no one has formally asked for a pardon yet.
These remarks follow Trump’s recent pardons of Todd and Julie Chrisley and rapper NBA Youngboy, who thanked him for the chance to “keep building—as a man, as a father, and as an artist.”
