A tragic plane crash on June 8, 2025, near San Diego’s Point Loma claimed six lives. The victims included young couple Landon and Torrie Baldwin from Safford, Arizona, leaving behind two children under five.
The Cessna 414 was headed to Phoenix when it crashed into the Pacific Ocean around 12:30 p.m. The pilot had reported issues with altitude and direction. Despite instructions to land at a nearby naval base, Landon radioed, “Mayday,” then disappeared from radar.
Eyewitness Tyson Wislofsky said, “He went straight into the water, nose first,” describing the impact as sudden and silent. Aviation expert Robert Katz suggested spatial disorientation, saying, “It appears to me that this pilot was spatially disoriented… I do not suspect a mechanical failure.”
The aircraft had once belonged to Optimal Health Systems, which clarified it was sold in 2023. Community members expressed deep grief. “They had a lot of faith about… seeing your loved ones again,” said Kirsten Baldwin. Friend Shelby Bedolla called them “bright, loving, and selfless.”
As investigations by the FAA and NTSB continue, the Arizona community mourns. “Our sincerest condolences are offered to those affected,” said Doug Grant of Optimal Health Systems.
