Does drinking water first thing in the morning offer benefits?

Approximately 60% of the human body is water, essential for temperature control, digestion, and nutrient transport. While drinking water in the morning is thought to rehydrate the body, “this isn’t entirely true.” Hydration is a continuous process, and urine color isn’t always a reliable indicator.

Water may support weight loss by promoting fullness and boosting metabolism, but timing has little impact. Hydration is important throughout the day, not just at specific times.

Daily water needs vary based on factors like age, activity, and environment. The common “8×8 rule” (eight 8-ounce glasses per day) is a general guideline, but individual requirements differ.

There’s no strong evidence that drinking water at certain times improves mental performance or skin health. What matters most is consistent hydration.
