Laura Hillier of Ontario, Canada, was diagnosed with leukemia at 13. After intensive treatments, she was declared cancer-free, but the disease returned four years later. Tragically, she lost her battle on January 20, 2016.
Her family shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, saying, “She fought bravely… her poise, her courage, her strength and her pure spirit shone through right until the end.”
Laura, a Nelson High School student, was deeply loved. Her classmates covered her casket with heartfelt notes, expressing love, gratitude, and sorrow. “You were musical. You were artistic. You were my bestest friend,” one read. Another said, “Very brave and strong. You will always be a hero.”
Her family was overwhelmed by the community’s support. Friends, teachers, neighbors, and hospital staff all penned tributes, ensuring Laura received a farewell filled with love.
Her favorite color, purple, adorned the church and her loved ones’ clothing. Though Laura is gone, the outpouring of love remains a powerful tribute to her memory.
