Trump keeps toying with a third term — even though the Constitution forbids it

A group of Donald Trump loyalists is initiating efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution to allow him a third term, an idea Trump hasn’t dismissed. At a recent meeting, Trump queried, “Am I allowed to run again?”

Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., introduced a resolution to modify the 22nd Amendment, permitting presidents to serve three non-consecutive terms. Ogles stated, “He is dedicated to restoring the republic and saving our country.”

At the Conservative Political Action Conference, a “Third Term Project” poster depicted Trump as Julius Caesar. Organizer Shane Trejo expressed intent to rally support for Ogles’ amendment, aiming to “change the future of the country for generations to come.”

Legal experts highlight the challenges of such an amendment. Retired Judge J. Michael Luttig emphasized, “There is no argument whatsoever that President Trump can be elected to the office of president again.”

Despite the constitutional hurdles, Trump’s supporters remain undeterred, viewing the amendment as a means to extend his leadership and influence.
