The Bell 206L-4 helicopter, operated by New York Helicopter, crashed near Pier 40, reportedly after flying erratically. Witnesses described a β*sonic boom*β and the aircraft *βsplitting in twoβ* before it plunged into the river. Emergency footage showed the helicopter sinking rapidly. Four people died on impact, and two later died in the hospital.
