Robert De Niro’s reaction after his child comes out as transgender

**Robert De Niro Supports Transgender Daughter Airyn With Love**

Actor Robert De Niro, 80, recently showed deep love and support after one of his seven children came out as transgender. Airyn, born in 1995 to De Niro and actress Toukie Smith, publicly shared her transition in an April interview with *Them* magazine.

“It just felt right. I feel like I’m meant to be doing this,” Airyn said, explaining her journey. Though the child of a Hollywood icon, she was raised privately. “They wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible,” she said of her parents.

Airyn began hormone therapy in November and was inspired by other trans women being open online: “Maybe I can start.”

De Niro responded simply and clearly: “I loved and supported Aaron as my son, and now I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I don’t know what the big deal is.”

Now embracing her identity, Airyn hopes to be a voice for others: “I’d want to hopefully be an inspiration for at least one other person like me who is Black, who is queer, who’s not a size extra small.”

“I love all my children,” De Niro added.
