Unplugging continues…
Don’t forget: unplug laundry equipment like the washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, and items like electric kettles, water heaters, and outdoor lighting (e.g., garden lights, fountains).
If leaving before a storm, “turn off and unplug everything that isn’t essential.”
Preventive habits
“Old wiring or faulty outlets significantly increase the risks during a storm.” Check your electrical system regularly, and in flood zones, cut power at the first signs of rising water.
Added protection
Though unplugging is safest, you can “install surge protectors and, if possible, a lightning rod” for extra safety—especially in thunderstorm-prone areas.
