In a tragic incident, Officer Phylicia Carson, 33, of the Osage Beach Police Department, lost her life during a high-speed chase. She was a “dedicated police officer and loving mother of six.”
The pursuit began early Sunday when Carson attempted to stop a speeding vehicle near Lake of the Ozarks. The suspect, 23-year-old Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer, refused to stop and fled. Carson’s patrol car “lost control, careening off the road and colliding with a tree,” causing a fatal fire.
Wehmeyer continued fleeing but later crashed and was arrested. He faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest and causing a police officer’s death. He is being held without bond in Camden County Jail.
Officer Carson, who joined the force in June 2023, was the department’s first on-duty loss in 30 years. Chief Todd Davis urged people to “keep the Carson family, the department, and the community in their thoughts and prayers.”
Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe honored Carson’s sacrifice, reminding everyone to support those who “serve and protect.” Her legacy of bravery and commitment to safety will not be forgotten.
