A routine traffic stop in Virginia Beach turned tragic late Friday night, leaving two officers dead.
At 11:27 p.m. on February 21, Officers Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese pulled over a Hyundai Sonata for an expired license plate. The driver initially refused to stop but eventually halted at a dead end. When approached, he “became argumentative and resisted commands.”
A struggle broke out after he exited the vehicle. Suddenly, he pulled a handgun and opened fire, hitting both officers. As they lay wounded, he “fired again, fatally wounding them” before fleeing.
Backup officers arrived swiftly and launched a manhunt. The suspect was later found dead in a nearby shed from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
