Changes in stool—like blood, narrow shape, or more frequent bowel movements—can be signs of colon cancer.
But these symptoms may also occur in other conditions, and “some patients with colon cancer may not exhibit any symptoms at all.”
Early Signs to Watch For
Colon cancer often causes stool to become thinner, darker, or looser. “Unexplained changes in stool appearance or movement should probably raise concerns.” Look out for:
Pencil-thin stools (due to colon narrowing)
Pain during bowel movements (dyschezia)
Feeling of incomplete emptying (tenesmus)
Rectal bleeding
Abdominal pain and fatigue from anemia
If you experience these symptoms, it’s important not to ignore them. Early detection is key.
