Eggs are a staple in many diets because they’re nutritious, affordable, and versatile. But when combined with the wrong foods, they can pose health risks. Here are two common combinations to avoid:
1. Eggs and Sugar (When Overcooked)
While eggs and sugar often go together in baking, overheating them forms glycotoxin — a harmful compound caused by the Maillard reaction.
“Consuming too much glycotoxin has been linked to inflammation, cell damage, and an increased risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease.”
Occasional treats are fine, but avoid regularly eating burnt or heavily processed egg-sugar mixtures.
2. Eggs and Soy Milk
Though both are high in protein, soy contains trypsin inhibitors that “can interfere with protein digestion.”
Eating them together — especially raw or undercooked — may reduce protein absorption and, over time, “lead to nutritional deficiencies.” It may also cause allergic or digestive issues in sensitive individuals.
