About 40 firefighters responded, extinguished the flames, and started salvage work. No residents were injured. Officials later confirmed the pilot, a passenger, and a dog aboard the plane were all killed. Identities have not yet been released.
An NTSB investigator was on scene Saturday. “The wreckage will be moved to a secure location for further analysis,” said spokesperson Peter Knudson. The investigation will review maintenance logs, weather data, communications, and any video footage.
This crash follows another involving the same aircraft model in January, when a Van’s RV-10 crashed into a warehouse during an emergency landing, killing the pilot and his daughter. A door possibly opened mid-flight, according to the NTSB. The cause of the Simi Valley crash remains under investigation, with a report expected in the coming weeks.
