The Lie That Sent Us to a Hotel

Mark always made things sound urgent—“There are rats,” he claimed, insisting we vacate for “deep cleaning.” I trusted him, even if my gut said otherwise.

At the hotel, things seemed fine—until day ten. I went home to grab shampoo and found “no crew. No workers. No rats. Just a woman. In pajamas. Using my mug.”

Mark called her “Sophie… from college.” He said it “just happened.” I told him, “You evicted the wrong person. The house is in my name.”
