Since January, COVID-19 cases in England have more than doubled, with the positivity rate rising from 2.2% to 4.5% by April 6. In just one week, cases increased by 7%, prompting new health warnings.
Dr. Wylie from the UK Health Security Agency says the rise is likely due to “seasonal changes and increased indoor gatherings.” As people spend more time indoors, the virus spreads more easily.
Common symptoms remain “sore throat, cough, congestion, fatigue,” while loss of taste or smell is now less frequent.
Although hospital admissions have slightly risen, most cases are still mild, especially among vaccinated individuals. The focus remains on protecting vulnerable groups and monitoring new variants.
Authorities urge the public to stay cautious, especially in crowded places, and to test if symptoms appear.
