Marcus’ world is turned upside down when his newborn arrives with pale skin and blue eyes—features that don’t resemble him or Elena at all. “What the hell is this?” he asks, consumed by suspicion and betrayal. Elena pleads, “I can explain,” revealing a secret she had kept for years.
“I need to tell you something,” she says. Before their marriage, genetic tests showed she carried a rare recessive gene that could cause such traits. “You must carry the gene too,” she adds, explaining their baby’s appearance. But Marcus’s family doesn’t buy it. “What kind of joke is this?” his mother demands.
Trying to defend his wife, Marcus stands firm. “It’s not a joke, Mom. This is your grandchild.” But their doubts persist, pushing Elena to finally say, “I think it’s time your family left.” Marcus agrees: “Either you accept our child or you don’t get to be part of our lives.”
To settle things, Elena suggests a DNA test. Marcus agrees. When the results confirm he is the father, he calls a family meeting. “It is time to put your doubts to rest,” he says, handing out the results. His mother, shaken, whispers, “All that recessive gene stuff was true?” Elena, ever forgiving, replies, “We’re family.”
