8 Detrimental Effects Soda Can Have On Your Body

Soda may be a favorite drink worldwide, but its regular consumption has serious health consequences. It’s packed with sugar and chemicals, offering “little to no nutritional value.”

Weight Gain & Diabetes
Sugary drinks like soda don’t trigger the body’s satiety signals, causing calorie overconsumption. Studies show daily soda drinkers are more likely to gain weight. Even “one soda daily has been linked to a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.”

Bone & Dental Health
Soda often replaces milk, reducing calcium intake, which can weaken bones over time. “Adequate calcium consumption can counteract any potential bone-related effects.” Its acids and sugars also erode tooth enamel and feed decay-causing bacteria.

Liver & Heart Risks
Fructose in soda is processed in the liver, and too much leads to fat buildup, causing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Soda also raises “blood pressure, LDL cholesterol,” and increases heart disease risk by 20%.

Other Harms & Healthier Swaps
Soda boosts uric acid levels, raising gout risk by up to 75% in women. Instead, drink water, milk, herbal teas, or calcium-rich mineral water for better long-term health. “Soda offers little beyond its immediate sugary taste.”
