Although Evelyn had complained of chest pain before, doctors dismissed it as anxiety. “I’m quite frustrated I was just told it was anxiety, just because I’m a young person,” she said. “If I was over 60… they would’ve looked into it further.”
After a month in hospital, Evelyn was fitted with an internal defibrillator. Now, she’s urging others to take their health seriously: “Don’t just assume doctors are right… if you think something is off, don’t be afraid to push and get it investigated.”
Her mom started a Facebook page, Young Hearts UK, to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in young people. “Twelve young people under 35 die each week in the UK from SCA,” Jennifer said. “That’s why we want people to know CPR and where their nearest defibrillator is.”
