**Elon Musk Quits Government Role After Criticizing Trump’s Spending Bill**
Elon Musk has stepped down early from his role as a “special government employee” in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), just one day after criticizing President Trump’s new spending bill.
“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill… it increases the budget deficit, not decreases it,” Musk told CBS. “I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful… but I don’t know if it could be both.”
Musk’s limited role allowed him to work up to 130 days a year, but his exit came three days early after his public remarks. The bill he opposed boosts defense spending and introduces large tax breaks, undermining DOGE’s mission to cut waste.
Despite speculation of a strained relationship, Trump plans to honor Musk at the White House. “This will be his last day, but not really… Elon is terrific!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Musk confirmed his departure on X (formerly Twitter): “I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time.”
Though he’s leaving his post, Musk’s influence on Trump’s administration appears far from over.
