Tony Adkins, affectionately known as “Big Tony,” has died at the age of 64 while on a rugby tour in Poland.
His cousin confirmed the news on social media, writing, “He was a lovable Rogue and will be missed very much, RIP Big T.”
Adkins was best known for his role as a bodyguard on *The X Factor*, where he worked with Simon Cowell for eight years. Fans remember him as the man who “dramatically removed contestants” when things got tense on the show. He later praised Cowell, saying, “Simon was so laid-back and a very nice guy… generous, too,” recalling a £700 thank-you gift one Christmas.
Beyond *The X Factor*, Adkins also had a brief acting role as a giant in *Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2*, a part fans felt was “fitting.”
His rugby club, Hammersmith & Fulham RFC, paid tribute: “More than a Rugby player, Tony found a niche later in life under the bright lights.” Fans also shared condolences online, with one writing: “Absolutely heartbreaking, RIP. Sleep well.”Simon Cowell has not yet commented publicly on Adkins’ passing.
