A shocking murder-suicide in Dalton, Georgia, has left two families grieving.
Police say 37-year-old Kevin Akins fatally shot his estranged wife, Rebeca Nicole Akins, and his pregnant girlfriend, Cindel Mae Rhoden, before taking his own life.
The tragedy began on May 23 when police performed a welfare check at Rebeca’s home after coworkers reported her missing. Officers discovered her dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Surveillance footage later showed Kevin leaving the apartment on May 21.
Investigators then traced Kevin to another residence, where they found him and Cindel dead. Cindel, five months pregnant, had also been shot. Police believe Kevin killed Rebeca first, then murdered Cindel before committing suicide.
Kevin had reportedly been romantically involved with both women at the same time. Rebeca and Kevin had been together for 20 years. Meanwhile, Cindel had recently shared an ultrasound photo online, excitedly announcing that her baby boy was due in September 2025.
